AJGA Makes Inaugural Trip to Harmony

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Feb. 25, 2008 Contact: Steve Ethun, AJGA (678) 425-1786 AJGA Makes Inaugural Trip to Harmony Golf Preserve Junior All-Star at Harmony set for May 16-18, 2008 BRASELTON, Ga. – For the first time in the American Junior Golf Association’s 30-year history, the AJGA will travel to the Town of Harmony, Fla., for the inaugural Junior All-Star May 16-18, 2008. Seventy-eight of the nation’s top up-and-coming junior golfers will compete in a 36-hole stroke play event contested at the only Johnny Miller signature designed golf course in Central Florida, Harmony Golf Preserve. The tournament practice round will take place Friday, May 16 at 1:30 p.m. Tournament play begins Saturday, May 17 with first-round tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. off the first and 10th tees. The final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. Sunday also off the first and 10th tees. The awards ceremony will directly follow final-round play at the tournament scoreboard. Spectators are welcome to attend and admission is free of charge. The Junior All-Star at Harmony is the first of nine events in the AJGA’s 2008 Junior All-Star series, a collection of tournament specifically designed for boys and girls age 12-15 years old. The competition provides an opportunity for younger members to develop their skills and earn entry into AJGA Open tournaments. The series concludes with the invitation-only Birks & Mayors Junior All-Star Invitational on The Country Club at Mirasol’s Sunset Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Oct. 10-13, 2008. The tournament field will be filled through the AJGA’s Performance Based Entry process. Applications are now being accepted on the AJGA’s Web site, ajga.org, through April 8. The players in the Junior All-Star at Harmony will look to follow the paths of notable juniors who played in Junior All-Star events and went on to become some of junior golf’s greats, including Rolex Junior Players of the Year Peter Uihlein of Bradenton, Fla. (2005, 2007), and Philip Francis of Scottsdale, Ariz. (2006). The Junior All-Star at Harmony is one of 81 events the AJGA will conduct in 2008. This year, AJGA tournaments will take place in more than 25 states. The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA, the largest Association of its kind, has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 foreign countries.
