November 7th 2006 - Hosted by THE HARMONY INSTITUTE
The 4th Annual Dark Sky Festival at Harmony is going to be a super nova event at the Harmony Town Square on November 11, 2006 from 4 to 10 PM. Hosted by the Harmony Institute and event partners including the Central Florida Astronomical Society, the Brevard Astronomical Society, the International Dark Sky Association, the Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau and Toho Water Authority, this astronomical event will entertain and educate you and your family. “The festival will include music by Jonn Serrie, national recording artist, known for his space music albums including Planetary Chronicles Vol. I and II and featured on SoundScapes. Guest speaker and PBS celebrity Jack Horkheimer, “The Star Gazer” program host, will lead you through fantastic naked-eye night sky viewings. Tours of the night sky using various telescopes will be conducted by “star guides” and there will be plenty of live entertainment,” said Greg Golgowski, Harmony’s full-time Conservation Director. “There will also be plenty of food and specialty booths as well as a cosmic Kids Zone. Bring your blanket or lawn chair; you’re in for a really great event.” The Dark Sky Festival celebrates and promotes the benefits of a nighttime sky free from the effects of excessive artificial lighting. In addition to introducing environmentally intelligent lighting and lifestyle practices, the event also encourages the development of scientific interest in Florida youth. “The debut of our talent driven event called Harmony’s Got Stars is a talent show competition that will allow attendees of all ages the opportunity to show off their particular talents, whatever that may be. From jugglers to singers and beyond,” said Golgowski. Be sure to read future issues of St. Cloud In The News to find out how you can be a part of this talent competition and win some great prizes. The Festival is free and open to the general public. Over 2,500 people are expected to attend the Festival this year.
